This was the second instalment of spots for Quick Lane that director Larry August and I have done together. They feature the same quirky Quick Lane tech / spokesperson as the first spots we did a year ago. We shot these Michigan, in Detroit and the Michigan International Speedway.
One of the spots we did this year we shot at the Michigan International Speedway. The idea is that our hero has snuck into a pit crew and has taken over Nascar racer Trevor Bayne’s pit area. To achieve this we shot plates of all the backgrounds we’d need for the spot during an actual Nascar race, allowing us to capture the stands full of thousands of people and seeing the cars whipping around the track. Then on our actual shoot day a few days later, we had the whole race track to ourselves as it was closed. We simply matched our camera angles to all the plates we’d shot on the race day.
The second spot used a “red carpet” event as the premise. We shot in front of an energy company’s HQ main entrance and dressed it up like a red carpet event.
